Ha Long Bay became one of New7Wonders – new significant milestone for tourism industry
At 19 o’clock GMT, 11 November, (or 2:00 morning 12 November, Hanoi Time), the website of New7Wonders organization had posted the provisional result of the New 7 Wonders of Nature voting, based on the first count of votes.

Together with Ha Long Bay, 6 other top selected Wonders of Nature include Amazon jungle of South America, Iguazu Falls in Argentina and Brazil, Jeju Island of South Korea, underground river at Puerto Princesa National Park of Philippines; Komodo island of Indonesia and Table Mountain of South Africa.

According to New7Wonders, this is not yet a final result of the voting. The voting calculation is now being checked, validated and independently verified, and the confirmed winners will be announced starting early 2012 during the Official Inauguration ceremonies where representatives of the winning countries will receive certificate grated by Founder and Chairman of New7Wonders Bernard Weber.

Exchanging opinions with the VnExpress representative, Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Director of Agency for International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, suggested that Ha Long Bay entered the final list thanks to the common and joint efforts made by Vietnam Government and people in recent times.

At 19:30 November 12, at August Revolution Square, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism hosted a program titled “Festival Night to celebrate 4 years of the campaign to vote for Ha Long Bay to be one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature”. Festival Night is a chance to look back to the whole campaign and to extend Vietnam’s thanks to its supporters, domestic and foreign.

Quang Ninh province People’s Committee also planned to organize a night of art performance and fireworks on 12 November at Bai Chay ferry terminal to honor new world’s wonder of nature. It sees this factor as a new opportunity for the local people and tourists to share the happiness with Ha Long Bay.

With the new honorable award, Ha Long Bay enjoys great opportunity to draw in more and more domestic and foreign tourists. In 9 months of this year, Ha Long Bay had received more than 5.1 million visitors, including more than 1.7 million foreign visitors. National Heritage Ha Long Bay had been twice recognized by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage. On 17 December 1994, Ha Long Bay was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site of outstanding, universal aesthetic value; On 02 December 2000, Ha Long Bay was additionally recognized by UNESCO for its outstanding geological and geomorphological value.

Ha Long Bay has a coast line of 120 km long; its area is 1,553 square kilometers, with 1969 islands in total. Some islands contain large caves inside, some other islands are the habitat of local people – fishermen. Ha Long Bay has a rich collection of more than 200 fish species and 450 species of mollusks. There are also many lakes inside limestone mountains; for example, Island Dau Be contain 6 such lakes.

The honor of Ha Long Bay on global scope tingle all Vietnamese people. It creates wonderful opportunity for Vietnam tourism in general and Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba tourism in particular. This also is a motivation to the socio-economic development of Ha Long Bay, and Cat Ba island.

Cat Ba Archipelago is recognized by UNESCO as World Biosphere Reserve. It is located at the strategic location, just next to Ha Long Bay. A unique world-class tourist attraction that harmoniously combines modern urban area with friendly resort and luxury marina is forming at this place. It is the Cat Ba Amatina Project hosted by Vinaconex-ITC. This is a large-scale and the most outstanding real estate project on Cat Ba island that evidences the international integration of Vinaconex in particular, and of Vietnam in general.
